Vito de Marco

Vito de Marco was born in Catania (Sicily, Italy) on December 7, 1963 and he resides there.

He lost his hearing at the age of 3 years and half because of his ear infection but he has a courageous and open character and keeps struggling to demolish the barrier of the communication by frequenting the civil and normal environment, in that he has grown and made friendship with hearing people also in sport grounds;

He graduated from School for dental technician “Istituito Professionale per l’industriale e l’Artigianato Enrico Fermi” situated in Catania in 1984 and then he attended three different courses: the first one for personal computer operators, the other one for shorthand typing and the last one for office secretary;

He studies currently at Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures in European Languages and Cultures Course situated in the Catania University and has good knowledge of different languages such as English, Spanish, French.

He has been an administrative employee of the Ministry of Defense (Government) since 1994;

He arrived from the planet of hearing people with a lot of cultural experience, started belonging to the Silent World at the age of around 31 years by working earlier as a volunteer and then also as a director of the FISS Italian Individual Tennis Championship and organized it in collaboration with the “Gruppo Sportivo ENS Giarre” (Giarre Deaf Sport Association) on June 28th, 29th and 30th, 1996;

He was chose as a director of this event because he was an excellent connoisseur of the tennis environment, in which he played almost every day and won 2 Sicilian Regional titles of the Deaf, the first one in Ragusa in 1995 and the second one in Catania in 1996;

He continues to enjoy playing this sport discipline now;

He had an excellent collaboration relationship with his teacher Rosario Pellegrino, secretary of the same G.S. ENS Giarre and vice-president of the Catania Provence Chapter of the ENS until Rosario died of cancer on July 25, 2001.

After that tennis event, he was elected as an adviser of the GS ENS Giarre on July 13, 1996;

He was chosen as a Vice President of the ‘GS ENS Giarre’, specialized in correspondence and relations with the FISS (Italian Deaf Sport Federation), the public and private bodies and the authorities, and in appeal and minutes until June 2002 when he decided to dedicate himself to his university studies;

He travelled abroad by being keen on participating as a spectator in the following tennis events from 1996 to 1999, meeting some world’s best deaf tennis players and especially studying the organization of the International event:

1. EDSO (European Deaf Sport Organization) Tennis Tournament in Sheffield (England) in the beginning of August 1996;

2. Deaf World Games 1997 in Copenhagen (Denmark);

3. International Meeting in Munich (Germany) in May of 1998;

He had excellent friendship relationship with the FISS (Italian Deaf Sport Federation) Vice President Guido Giovanetti who wanted him later as a organizer volunteer at CISS (Comitée International Sport Sourds) World Team Tennis Championship for the Deaf (Dresse and Maere Cups) in Finale Ligure, Italy from June 26h to 3rd July, 1999.

He took on being a President of the Local Organizing Committee of The EDSO (European Deaf Sport Organization) Tennis Championship in Catania, Sicily 2000, required authorization for organizing this event in his native land in collaboration with both the FISS (Italian Deaf Sport Federation) and the GS ENS Giarre and had strong work and relations with the local authorities and the public and private bodies to ask for contribution, but in June 1998, the EDSO Congress in Vilnius, Lithuania, approved of entrusting Vienna (Austria) with the task of organizing this Championship;

He was selected as a Collaborator of the Extraordinary Commission of the Syracuse ENS (Ente Nazionale Sordomuti) Province Chapter with his head Sebastiano Manciagli and his vice Rosario Pellegrino every Wednesday evening from July 1998 to February 2000;

The F.I.S.S. and its federal adviser Sebastiano Manciagli called him again as a coordinator for organization of the Men and Women Volleyball International Meeting Italy-Germany that was held in Catania from April 2 to 3, 1999.

During this event, Manciagli appointed him head of the volunteers, interpreter of a group of German athletics and managers for communicating in Italian language with the hotel receptionist and also the check in the airport, and also their tourist guide.

He was selected as one of adverting and informatics operators for the Deaflympics Games Rome 2001, but he suddenly resigned for job reason, one week before the beginning of this event;

Coordinator of the organization of various FISS Italian Championships in collaboration with the GS ENS Giarre such as Women Five a Side Soccer in March 1998, Bowling in March 1999, Athletics in June 1999, Women Volleyball in March 2000;

Collaborator as a journalist/Reporter, wrote sporting and cultural articles for 4 different newspapers and magazines such as: Gazzettino di Giarre (for hearing people); La Parola della FISS (Rome); Parole e Segni (Rome); La Voce della Sicilia Silenziosa (Palermo) until 2001;

He Created successfully brochures and advertisements by Corel Draw for different Deaf Sporting and Cultural Events in collaboration with printers;

In response to President Alfonso Massimino’s call, Vito has been taking part in the C.I.A.S.S (Consorzio Inter Associativo Sordi Siciliani) as responsible for technical table since March of 2008.

Although he has never had either experience in a field of web site creation nor has he needed any help from an technician experienced on informatics, he manages to both create successfully a multilingual web site anyway with the following address: www.ciasordisiciliani.it, in that he includes three languages such as English, Spanish and French besides his mother tongue, and get it to be working since May 3, 2008.

Since this last date he has been taking on the office of Webmaster – Translator of this site, being probably the DEAF first and only Webmaster – Translator in the world.

He enjoys jogging and playing soccer besides tennis, he dedicates himself to some hobbies of his: graphics, history, geography, art;

He shows his great passion for travel, tours round the world by visiting 27 foreign countries and enjoying exploring monuments, cultures and art and keeps going to USA for family reason.






Vincenzo Massimino

Vincenzo Massimino, was born in Messina on January 10, 1983 and he lives there; he is a (hearing) son of the CIASS President Alfonso.

Thanks to his parents, since he was younger he has been involved with the life of the Deaf World by having relationship both with the adults and with the persons of the same age.

He obtained his status of qualified doctor of first level in ‘Analysis and management of the natural and anthropic risks’ in the Faculty of Science MM FF NN of Messina. As he is a qualified junior geologist at University of Palermo, he is finishing his studies by attending his specialistic in ‘Management of the territorial risks’.

He agrees with his enthusiasm to his father’s project both for the foundation of the “Associazione Audiolesi e Problemi del Linguaggio (AAPL)” (based in Messina) by taking on the office of President, and for the birth of the CIASS, in which he is taken on the office of responsible for Technical Table.

He is an eclectic person as his mother is; since he was a young boy, he has been busy in the sector of show by providing sometimes his consultancy to the deaf persons even in this area.

His excellent linguistic ability have allowed him to arrive to a excellent knowledge of English Language and obviously of LIS (Italian Sign Language).

Extrovert and involving personality (he has performed also his activity as leader, he shows his important ability of organization and cooperation but especially to be in a position to sensitize the next in order to make it participate in the reality of the Deaf Community.
